Global portal envisioned for intergenerational senior programming at Stone Hill of Andover, a senior living community opening spring 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. and ANDOVER, Mass. (May 1, 2018) – Capitol Seniors Housing and The Northbridge Companies recently made a $5,000 donation to the Andover Coalition for Education (ACE) in support of the organization’s Global Portal project. The mobile portal uses video and audio technology to connect Andover students with others worldwide and will eventually include residents of Stone Hill of Andover, a new senior living community opening in the spring of 2019.

Capitol Seniors Housing, a senior living investment and development firm, is constructing Stone Hill of Andover, an assisted living and memory care community located at 141 Elm St., which will be operated by Northbridge.

“We’re excited to have an opportunity to support the Andover Coalition for Education and the Andover community in a meaningful way,” said Scott Stewart, Managing Partner of Capitol Seniors Housing. “We aspire to create true assets to local communities, including environments which encourage our residents to engage with each other, their families and friends, and the community at large. This unique technology will help connect our younger and older generations in an incredible learning environment.”

The Andover Public Schools is committed to creating next level learning environments to foster authentic and personalized learning opportunities for our students and community. The Andover Portal connects with local and global communities through the arts, sciences, language, history, design, entrepreneurship, and engineering, working together to discover common ground for a common good.

“Northbridge is highly focused on intergenerational programs and activities, so this is an ideal opportunity to connect Stone Hill residents with Andover school students,” said Jim Coughlin, Chief Executive Officer, Northbridge Companies. “We look forward to introducing Stone Hill residents to Andover students and exploring fun ways for them to use the Andover Portal together and connect with others across the globe.”

The donation was presented on April 27 at a special event to celebrate the occasion with Lenore Price, ACE President; Jennifer Srivastava, ACE Director; Dr. Sheldon Berman, Superintendent, Andover Public Schools; and Steve Chinosi, Director of Strategic Innovation of the Andover Public Schools.  Presenting the check was Joe McElwee, Principal – Development, Capitol Seniors Housing, who was joined by Jim Coughlin, Chief Executive Officer, Northbridge Companies.

“The Andover Portal is providing the opportunity for students to connect with other people across the world,” said ACE President Lenore Price. “It is combining innovative technology with the school’s curriculum and changing the way our students will learn. We are so excited to have The Northbridge Companies and Capitol Seniors Housing as our first funding partner for the portal.  This is the start of something bigger for our community.”

There are currently 47 portals around the globe and Andover Public School’s Portal, designed by Shared Studios, is the first ever long-term installation at a K-12 public school in the world.
