WASHINGTON, D.C. and GAMBRILLS, Md. (February 2, 2018) – Capitol Seniors Housing, a leading senior living investment and development firm, has started construction on Arbor Terrace Waugh Chapel, an assisted living and memory care community in Gambrills, Md., located near Baltimore, Annapolis and Washington D.C. The $27.2 million, 72,140-square foot community will have 84 residential suites. Located at 2535 Evergreen Rd., Arbor Terrace Waugh Chapel is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2018. The company is also constructing Arbor Terrace Maple Lawn in Fulton, Md., scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of this year.

“We’re very appreciative to town leaders who recognized our vision of bringing quality senior living to the Gambrills area, where residents enjoy an excellent quality of life,” said Joe McElwee, Principal – Development, Capitol Seniors Housing. “Arbor Terrace Waugh Chapel will be operated by The Arbor Company, an outstanding senior living operator of 32 communities in 10 states. Together, we are committed to engaging and enriching the health and spirit of our residents. We look forward to offering residents and their loved ones a quality choice for care in a community they love.”

Featuring a colonial-inspired exterior designed by Moseley Architects, Arbor Terrace Waugh Chapel will feature a second-story terrace, beautiful courtyard and well-appointed amenities to ensure residents feel at home. The interior – designed by Dallas-based Faulkner Design Group – will present a fresh, cheerful design in a sophisticated manner. The overall style is transitional, with a clean backdrop of light finishes mixed with dark woods. Throughout the community, lively accents of teal, lime, copper and plum are infused through fabrics, art and select finishes.

The comfortable and inviting design will translate into an engaging atmosphere for residents and visitors. In addition, the designers put careful consideration into each choice for universal and accessible design to ensure functionality. Upon arriving at the community, one will be greeted with a spacious entry featuring a concierge desk and design touches which include a signature staircase and a mosaic diamond marble focal wall. Among the many amenities in the community, an exceptional bistro area with a coffee-shop atmosphere will be a popular gathering place for residents to relax or have a pre-dinner cocktail before entering the adjacent dining room. The dining room, which includes a stunning wood ceiling, will offer a variety of seating for large groups or more intimate settings, with all furniture specifically designed for seniors in its dimensions, comfort and durability. As a place to read or work, the library will be popular for its comfortable seating and inviting fireplace. Residents will be found oftentimes in the multipurpose room, designed for a multitude of engaging activities such as crafts and games. Arbor Terrace Waugh Chapel also will include a fitness/rehab room, salon and spa, theater and other areas for socialization and activities. Throughout the community, designers selected zero-transition flooring which is elegant yet durable and allows ease of use for those relying on walkers and wheelchairs. High-contrast flooring and walls also provide visual separation for seniors.

Gambrills is a wonderful community, and Arbor Terrace Waugh Chapel will be in an ideal location where residents will live immediately adjacent to the Wegman’s grocery store, one of the major anchors for the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre,” said Scott Stewart, Managing Partner of Capitol Seniors Housing. “The Waugh Chapel Towne Centre is a 79-acre premier mixed use destination in the heart of the Annapolis-Baltimore-Washington corridor. Arbor Terrace Waugh Chapel residents, family members and employees will have easy access to this state-of-the-art shopping and residential amenity next door.”

United Bank Inc. of Washington, D.C., is the lender for the Arbor Terrace Waugh Chapel development. “Capitol Seniors Housing has a deep understanding of the senior housing industry, a focused and detailed approach for identifying opportunities, and an excellent record of success. The Gambrills area is an outstanding place to live and an excellent location for a quality senior living community,” said Kevin Reynolds, Regional President and Director of Sales.
