WASHINGTON, D.C. and FULTON, Md. (December 7, 2017) – Capitol Seniors Housing, a leading senior living investment and development firm, has started construction on Arbor Terrace Maple Lawn, an assisted living and memory care community in Fulton, Md., near Washington, D.C. The $27.5 million, 73,000-square-foot community will have 86 apartments. Located at 11584 Scaggsville Rd. on Route 216, Arbor Terrace Maple Lawn will be adjacent to Maple Lawn Market Place and Reservoir High School. The senior living community is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2018.

“We are proud to begin another new and exciting project with The Arbor Company, which will bring a top-quality senior living community to help seniors and families in the area,” said Scott Stewart, Managing Partner of Capitol Seniors Housing. “Maple Lawn is known for its small-town atmosphere, and this community is designed to blend in nicely with the surrounding architecture of the nearby Main Street-style shopping district which includes boutique stores, restaurants and many other amenities. Arbor Terrace Maple Lawn will become a valuable asset, allowing residents and their loved ones to receive the care they need and remain in the community they love.”

Designed by Baltimore-based BCT Architects, Arbor Terrace Fulton will have an exterior that suggests a boutique hotel and takes cues from the contemporary architecture of nearby retail stores also designed by BCT. The interior, designed by Dallas-based Faulkner Design Group, will carefully blend the interior to match the exterior while still creating a traditionally uplifting atmosphere by adding more color and opting for softness. The entry will feature a focal wall of horizontal panels and inset bronze transitions along with a signature staircase including antique-style detailing in the railing. Each finish, like the glass partition also included on the staircase, was carefully selected with seniors in mind to create a visually appealing but, also, functional space. Pops of color give life to the community crafted from a color scheme of greens and yellows that not only create a warm and inviting area, but, are easier for aging eyes to see.

Furthermore, to uphold the contemporary aesthetic, designers chose porcelain wood flooring, providing both durability and luxury. All flooring smoothly transitions to provide comfort and safety to residents using darker colors and fabrics to help with depth perception and any changes in elevation. Rugs are also set within the carpet allowing wheelchairs and walkers to move freely. Amenities will include a casual seating bistro/sports lounge featuring an open-concept kitchen area, as well as a library, theater, and multipurpose room, all of which encourage engagement throughout the community. Additional amenities include an art studio, salon and spa, and a fitness/rehab room for other activity and socialization spaces. Outdoors, residents will find relaxation in the spacious courtyard and landscaped areas, which are all designed to offer both exercise and relaxation.

“Arbor Terrace Maple Lawn will foster an intergenerational community by virtue of its close proximity to the nearby elementary, middle and high schools, which will present opportunities for Arbor Terrace residents and area students to engage with one another,” said Joe McElwee, Principal – Development, Capitol Seniors Housing. “We expect Arbor Terrace Maple Lawn residents to have grandchildren and perhaps great grandchildren in these schools. We envision students coming to Arbor Terrace Maple Lawn to volunteer and perform recitals, and our residents will visit the schools to speak to students and enjoy school-sponsored activities such as musicals, theater and choir performances. When we build a senior living community, we seek to create an experience which benefits its residents and the overall community.”

In addition to Arbor Terrace Maple Lawn, Capitol Seniors Housing has several other senior living communities under construction including:
