WASHINGTON, D.C. and CHICAGO, Ill. (January 11, 2019) – Capitol Seniors Housing, a leading senior living investment and development firm, has begun construction on Atria Highland Park, an assisted living and memory care community in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park. The $30 million, three-story, 72,000-square-foot community with 86 residential suites will be operated by Atria Senior Living. Located at 1000 Central Avenue, just west of the city’s downtown, Atria Highland Park is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2020.
“We’re very excited to redevelop this area of Highland Park and bring a top-quality senior living community to its residents,” said Scott Stewart, Managing Partner of Capitol Seniors Housing. “Residents and visitors of Atria Highland Park are going to be amazed with this community, which will offer all of the amenities senior adults desire. They also will enjoy an engaging community with a terrific social life supported by events, activities and outings.”
Atria Highland Park was designed by Mosely Architects based in Richmond, Va., and interior design firm StudioSIX5 based in Austin, Texas. Beautifully appointed amenities designed to encourage socialization and engagement in activities will include public and private dining, bistro, living room, card room, library, high-tech theater, art studio, exercise room, and multipurpose room for games and activities. The memory care area, offering 22 residential suites, will include a salon. Located on a 1.8-acre site, residents also will enjoy spacious courtyards, other outdoor amenities, and a view overlooking the Sunset Valley Golf Course to the rear of the site. Capitol Seniors Housing also will create a pedestrian crossing extending into Sunset Woods Park as a public benefit, as well as extend the Deerfield Road sidewalk and improve the Central Avenue sidewalk with landscaping and seating.
The community will be operated by Atria Senior Living, a top-tier national senior living operator of more than 225 communities, including four in Chicagoland. Atria’s excellent programming for its residents includes the signature events and activities program, Engage Life®, which surveys community residents to develop opportunities for joy, growth and fulfillment tailored to their interests. Atria offers an events calendar filled with opportunities based on eight key dimensions of engagement that contribute to a fulfilling life – from book discussions, gardening clubs, exercise classes and games to group outings, volunteer opportunities and art workshops. Atria also encourages residents to stay active and involved by leading classes and events related to their expertise and lifelong passions.
“We are most appreciative of area leaders who worked with us to bring this project forward, recognizing the opportunity to develop an older part of town into something very special which will serve the needs of a growing older adult population,” said Joe McElwee, Principal – Development, Capitol Seniors Housing. “The location is perfect for the senior adults who will live here – it’s near Sunset Park, medical facilities, retail, a post office and more.”
In addition to Atria Highland Park, Capitol Seniors Housing also owns the Arbor Terrace in Naperville and is constructing Atria Glenview, an 83-suite senior living community in Glenview.
